A Minor Guitar Chord
A minor is a warm, serious open chord and one of the most useful sounds on guitar. It shares two fingers with E major and moves naturally to C, F, G and E.

How to play Am
Why this shape works
The minor third C gives the chord its darker colour while the two open A and E notes keep it resonant.
Clean fingering tip
Build the shape from the first finger on the B string, then add the two second-fret fingers as a pair.
Common mistake
The first finger often leans into the open high E. Keep the fingertip vertical and check each string separately.
Check every string
Pick from the lowest included string to the highest. A note should either ring clearly or be deliberately muted. Accidental half-muted strings are what make a chord feel weak.
