The open strings create a wide voicing that works especially well with C and D. The upper G can be played with the third or fourth finger depending on the next chord.
Clean fingering tip
Use the fingertip on the low E string and let the wrist drop enough that the A string remains clear.
Common mistake
Do not flatten the second finger across the A and D strings. A small thumb movement behind the neck usually fixes the muted D string.
Check every string
Pick from the lowest included string to the highest. A note should either ring clearly or be deliberately muted. Accidental half-muted strings are what make a chord feel weak.
