E Minor 7 Guitar Chord
Em7 is one of the easiest extended chords on guitar and one of the most atmospheric. A single fretted note can produce the full four-note harmony.

How to play Em7
Why this shape works
The open D string supplies the flat seventh while E, G and B are already present across the remaining strings.
Clean fingering tip
Let every open string ring and experiment with gentle arpeggios as well as full strums.
Common mistake
Heavy strumming can make this open voicing muddy. Use a lighter pick attack or remove the low E for a cleaner texture.
Check every string
Pick from the lowest included string to the highest. A note should either ring clearly or be deliberately muted. Accidental half-muted strings are what make a chord feel weak.
