Why this shape works

The triangular fingering places the flat seventh C in the centre of the chord and keeps the open D root in the bass.

Clean fingering tip

Plant the first finger on the B string first, then place the second and third fingers around it.

Fix it fast

Common mistake

Do not allow the first finger to touch the high E string. A clean top F# gives the chord its major third.

Check every string

Pick from the lowest included string to the highest. A note should either ring clearly or be deliberately muted. Accidental half-muted strings are what make a chord feel weak.
